Clubs - Lely High School

Debate Club aims to strengthen public speaking skills, national and international awareness of issues, and effective arguments. Throughout the year, the team competes against other public high schools in the county, with the final debate taking place in late March. CCPS hosts Public Forum debates where each team is introduced to two resolutions and are expected to have 3 members be prepared to argue either pro or con in relation to the resolution. Debate members practice speech-writing, meaningful speaking techniques, cross-fires, and rebuttals in preparation for competitions. DECA

The purpose of DECA is to engage emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA prepares the next generation to be academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders and college, career, and life ready.

Engineering Club

FCA

FCA campus ministry is the largest Christian campus ministry in America. It is initiated by students with the purpose of providing opportunities for students to be impacted for Jesus Christ through engagement in fellowship, teamwork, fun, and competition. The FCA Chapter is a student-lead club that hosts weekly meetings called Huddles which are open to all NHS students, faculty, and staff who are interested in learning more about the life and philosophies of Jesus Christ. FCA also hosts numerous community-building activities and service projects throughout the school year.

Junior Civitan Club

Junior Civitan is an international organization of community service clubs, designed by Civitan International and supported by the local sponsoring Neapolitan Civitan Club to enhance leadership and community service skills in teens. The Naples Junior Civitan Club is an active and caring group of teens who receive credit for volunteer hours and qualify for Civitan scholarships. They make a difference in our community with their local projects and make a difference around the world with their support of medical research, environmental projects as well as social awareness projects.

Key Club

Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Today, Key Club exists on more than 5,000 high school campuses, primarily in the United States and Canada.

Objectives:

Develop initiative and leadership.
Provide experience in living and working together.
Serve the school and community.
Cooperate with the school principal.
Prepare for useful citizenship.

Accept and promote the following ideals:

Give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.
Encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial challenges students to encompass a role in the courtroom in the annual competition across the county. The Collier County Mock Trial Competition is held in late January and is hosted by the Collier County Bar Association. Mock Trial is an academic simulation of the courtroom and introduces students to the dynamic and influence of the court system. Posing as either attorneys or witnesses, members are expected to be fully prepared and knowledgeable of the case in order to compete. The team is made up of 6-8 students. If you are interested in joining, the new captains will be initiating tryouts for new members to fill the vacant spots. Mock Trial is a great opportunity for students looking to strengthen their speaking skills, understanding of the law, and teamwork in an academic aspect.

Model UN

The purpose of Model United Nations is to teach negotiating, bargaining and communication skills, represent a foreign perspective in a disciplined forum, enhance awareness and inform students on critical global issues, and acquaint students with the workings of the United Nations.

Mu Alpha Theta (Math)

Mu Alpha Theta is an international mathematics honor society and competition club. The group meets weekly to discuss upcoming competitions and events. Throughout the year, the club fundraises for shirts, competition fees, and membership dues. The club takes tests designed to challenge individuals in the field of mathematics and are scored and compared to other schools in the region. Each student competes against other students in the current course they are taking from Algebra l, Geometry, Algebra ll, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics. The team takes part in a few out-of-school competitions, as well as in-school exams. Mu Alpha Theta is looking for new members with a passion for problem-solving and teamwork, as well as a proficiency in their math courses. National Honor Society

National Honors Society is an organization that is nationally recognized to showcase Scholarship, Character, Service, and Citizenship within the school and the community. Students need a 4.0 GPA and be a Junior or Senior of the school. They are in the community volunteering and showcasing the skills.

National Honor Society is a service organization comprised of members from the junior and senior classes at Lely High School who demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. To be a member of NHS means a student is one of high standing in his/her school and is a person who understands the need to help others. NHS membership is an important addition to a student’s resume when applying for college. NHS members tutor other Lely students, sponsor the Top 100 Recognition Night, participate in Naples Relay for Life, work on projects for Lely and other schools, raise money to pay budgetary needs and make donations for worthy causes, work on community projects, such as Feeding the Hungry Children of Naples, Blood Drives and several other smaller projects. We take pride in the services we provide for our students, our schools, and our community, and we welcome members who are willing to work hard to keep our organization one of the top service organizations in the nation.

Spanish Honor Society

Spanish National Honor Society is new to Lely High School. The purpose of the club is to recognize and appreciate the Spanish language and culture. SNHS wants to encourage students to be excited about learning Spanish. Members are introduced to scholarship opportunities for high-achievement in their classes and commitment to learning the Spanish language. If you are interested in joining, you need to be either fluent in Spanish or have taken at least two years of Spanish.

Students for Progress

Students for Progress is a student-driven discussion group focusing on current issues facing our community in a local, national, and global perspective. Each week a new member prepares a brief presentation regarding a topic of their choosing ranging from political, environmental, scientific, and cultural lenses of conversation. The group reflects on the topic, discussing its impact on our school, community, and future. Members find the weekly experience eye-opening, and often look forward to where the discussion will lead them. Students for Progress is proud to be able to foster conversation between young people in the community about real pressing issues facing our world. Anyone is welcome to join us!

We Dine Together

We Dine Together is a club which allows anybody who is inclined to join make new friends and meet others of all different backgrounds. WDT has different voluntary events like board games, ice breakers, pizza parties, and more to help students get involved with school and meet new people. Meetings are held in Mrs. Bowe's room across from the cafeteria. Everyone is welcome, and nobody should ever feel alone!

The purpose of this club is to enable students to develop skills in the production of journalism across print, and multimedia platforms and to develop knowledge of ethics use and management techniques related to the production of journalistic media.
